Nancy Wilson, a jazz musician and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio 20 February 1937, to Olden Wilson, an ironworker who had worked for a long period as housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was youngest child of six. Her father's love of music and the records he played at home were a huge influence on Nancy as a young girl. It was clear that she wanted to become a performer by the time she was four years old and developed her skills by performing in the choir at church. In high school, she appeared regularly on Skyline Melodies. That same year, Nancy began to perform at night clubs. Nancy was just 17 when she finished high school. After matriculating at Ohio Central State College - which is now Central State University - for one term, Nancy quit to become a professional performer. In 1956, she recorded her debut album in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They performed together from 1956 through 1958. Nancy released her first album with Dot Records while in the group. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate into New York for her career and, in 1959, she moved to The Big Town. Within a short time she began singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club which is located at Boston Road near The Bronx. Adderley's representative was able to hear her perform and promptly agreed to sign her. Her debut on the recording stage came in 1960 with a single after he obtained a deal with Capitol records.
