Jazz musician Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award-winner was born on February 20 1937 in Ohio, Chillicothe. She was the daughter of iron worker Olden Wilson and the former Lillian Ryan who worked as domestic helper. Nancy Wilson was the only child of six. The music passion of her father and his collection of records in the family room were an enormous influence on Nancy at the age of a girl. In 1956 she released her first album in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band with whom she toured from 1956 between 1956 and 1958. In the band, Nancy released her first record on Dot Records. Cannonball Adderley urged her to travel into New York in order to improve her career. The city she went to was The Big Town, New York in 1959. Her agent heard her speak at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she signed. within a month of her arrival in New York City. The agent he was working with signed her up to Capitol in 1960. She made her debut that year. Guess Who I Saw today Capitol released five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. With the help of Adderley's influence, Nancy Wilson shifted to R&B into jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in the year 1962 helped bring her to the forefront and her hit Tell Me the Truth was released in 1963. Her first job was at New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's top club.
